It’s your Friday gig guide! As we await some unseasonably good weather this weekend, let the autumn vibes continue here in Galway as we bring you just a flavour of what’s on tonight in this fantastic city of the tribes. From DJ sets to the very best of original music and covers nights, it’s always jam packet with your favourite bands.

Monroes Live

11pm: DJ Fergal D’Arcy

Fresh from taking up a prestigious new slot on RTÉ’s 2FM, DJ Fergal D’Arcy is back on home turf with an exciting set at Monroe’s Live at 11pm. The Co. Galway born D’Arcy is one of Ireland’s leading radio DJs with a name that is among the most recognisable in the industry.

Throughout his career, he has scooped numerous awards, including being voted Ireland’s Number 1 Radio DJ by Hot Press magazine for three years in a row. Hailing from Ballinasloe, Co Galway, Fergal also regularly treads the boards at a local and national level, with the Bravo Theatre Company, Twin Productions, Loughrea Musical Society and made his Bord Gáis Energy Theatre stage debut in 2018.

As a result, his charismatic stage presence and lively banter shines through in his live performances. This year, he’s been “lashing out the tunes” at festivals across the country. Catch the popular DJ in action away from the radio mic and at the award-winning Monroe’s Live venue on Dominick Street from 11pm. The Cellar Bar

9:30pm: Live Music with 3 Legged Dog

This Friday, join 3 Legged Dog at The Cellar Bar on Eglington Street. This vibrant 3 to 4 piece acoustic band are renowned for their classic covers with a folk twist that is quintessentially Galway. Don’t miss your chance to catch this talented and experienced band live in action at The Cellar, many of whom are members of the incredible Amazing Apples. Think the fast call of the fiddle, with the riffs of the guitar and mandolin playing your favourite tunes with a vibrant twist. Upbeat and rousing, 3 Legged Dog are a must see on the Galway live calendar.

Seven on Bridge Street

9:30pm: Pyramid

Experience the electrifying energy of Pyramid, the ultimate five-piece covers band, live at Seven on Bridge Street. It will be a night filled with non-stop music from one of Galway’s classic covers bands. Pyramid are renowned for recreating the biggest hits from across the decades. From rock anthems to contemporary pop chart-toppers, they’re extensive knowledge of music, experience and repertoire ensures there’s something for everyone. Enjoy an evening of pop and rock hits with a Galway staple on the music scene. Not only that, DJ Cian McGovern will keep the party going with thumping tunes.

8pm: Hell of a Show (The Loft at Seven on Bridge Street)

Take a walk on the sumptuous, glamourous and delectable dark side with Hell of a Show at the Loft venue in Seven on Bridge Street. Featuring the sultry Leela Baron, the new Queen on the scene Laryn Gitis, Cosmic Pixie, Batty Kaz, Chrome Doll and many more, this tantalising burlesque show features a host of daring performances. From the art of pole dancing to a celebration of dance, it will be a night to showcase amazing talent from a range of genres with delicious spice. Hell of a Show is an all-inclusive event – a safe space for both performers and guests filled with acceptance, support and kindness. Tickets include a complementary glass of prosecco and a surprise gift at this strictly over 18s event.

Róisín Dubh

8pm: Super Extra Bonus Party

Channelling the psychedelic spirit of the ’70s, Super Extra Bonus Party will gig tonight at the Róisín Dubh as they return with their new album ‘Late Nite 99’. This highly anticipated album is long awaited from the Choice Music Prize winning group.  Formed in 2005, the indie-electronica band made a welcome return in 2011 with a trio of singles, performing at Body and Soul, Castlepalooza, and Electric Picnic. With Cormac Brady, Stephen Fahey, Gavin Elsted and Gary Clarke, the band will bring their unpredictable creativity to the stage.

Recorded over two weekends in late 2022, ‘Late Nite 99,’ showcases a more cohesive and introspective side of the band. It seamlessly transitions between cinematic faux-westerns, technicolour psychedelia, and delicate electronica. Don’t miss their electrifying performance this Friday night at the Róisín Dubh.  

DNA Nightclub

11pm: Urban Friday

Mayfair are back in Galway for another unbelievable Urban Friday at DNA Nightclub in the heart of the city centre. Featuring DJ Ahmed, Dacosta and MC Sika⁠, expect nothing but the best of hip hop, afrobeats and amapiano. Not only that, DJ Aodan F will be rocking The Basement with the dynamic beat of commercial hits, throwbacks and cheese.  Enjoy an electrifying night of revelry with an eclectic blend of genres. Not only that, DJ Adam D will be rocking The Basement with nothing but the best of commercial hits, throwbacks and cheese.

The Skeff Late Bar and Kitchen

10pm: Evoke

Expect a night of fun, frolics and rousing music as Evoke take to the stage at the Skeff Late Bar and Kitchen in Eyre Square.  This bustling venue comes alive to the rhythm of this entertaining band as they deliver their signature acoustic sound with power and panache. This lively and upbeat group bring the rhythm, maintaining a fast pace that keeps the crowd wanting more.

Delivering music from a range of decades and genres, they successfully delve into elements of indie, alternative rock, and folk with their take on classic covers, rock anthems and more. Afterwards, join DJ Dave G to keep you on the dance floor ‘til late.

The Kings Head

9:30pm: Red Tape

Red Tape will rock this historic King’s Head bar this Friday night with their rousing, raw and edgy take on classic covers and anthems. It’s set to be a night of hard rock to the best beats, as Red Tape power through the ultimate set list to ensure you will be on your feet and dancing. Described as Galway’s rockiest, funkiest and ‘poppiest’ band, this driving four-piece will entertain the night through.
