Monroe’s Live

9pm: Seo Linn To Deliver Rousing Trad Performance at Monroe’s Live

The multi-award winning trad group Seo Linn have been on an upward trajectory since their version of Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ catapulted them into the limelight. Now, they are set to perform music from their latest album, Anuas, at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, June 3rd from 9pm.

Seo Linn’s rise to fame has brought with it a renewed passion for trad music and the Irish language.  Their reimagining of modern classics with a traditional flair has garnered a global audience, sparking the flame with their Irish translation of contemporary anthems.

Together, Stiofán Ó Fearail, Kevin Shortall, Daithí Ó Ruaidh and Keith Ó Briain have introduced a new generation to the language, making it accessible to all through their high energy performances. And their rousing renditions have appealed to the masses on social media, amassing millions of views on YouTube.

In fact, their spine-tingling rendition of ‘Óró ‘Sé do Bheatha Abhaile’ is the most watched version of the song.  It is this ability to move from rollicking up beat numbers to delicate and soulful ballads that is the essence of Seo Linn.

While delivering power pop with a folk twist, they also stay true to the roots of the genre.  So much so, that Anuas is an innovative new collection of songs from the Irish tradition which are reworked in an exciting and explorative way.

It’s set to be a night of toe-tapping and rhythmic traditional tunes with a fresh twist as the talented band, Seo Linn, take to the award winning stage at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, June 3rd.  Tickets cost €12 and are available from www.monroes.ie.

Róisín Dubh

8pm: Ultan Conlon with support from Sabrina Dinan

Fresh from recording his latest album, The Starlight Ballroom, produced by Grammy award-winner David Garza, Ultan Conlon is set to perform at the Róisín Dubh this Saturday night.

Many of Ultan’s critically acclaimed songs have received extensive airplay in Ireland (RTE Radio 1, Lyric FM) and the UK (BBC).

‘The Starlight Ballroom’, Ultan’s upcoming studio album is inspired by the ballroom of romance in Westport, Co Mayo, which opened in the early 1960’s and closed in 1981. Thousands would pack into the hall to see local Irish show bands and the best international acts of the day. Roy Orbison played The Starlight in 1969 and Ultan’s song, The Starlight Ballroom, takes in and ponders the night in question.

The formidable group of musicians on the album includes producer and co-writer Garza on numerous instruments, Amy Wood— Drums (Fiona Apple, Iggy Pop, St Vincent) Sebastian Steinberg — Double Bass (Fiona Apple, Iron and Wine, Neil Diamond, KD Lang) Dave Curtis – Strings and Programming (Aj Croce).
