The closing date for nominations for The Galway People of the Year Awards is fast approaching and members of the public are being invited to submit the person, or group, who they feel are most deserving of the accolade, before June 18th.
Beginning in 1995, The Galway People of the Year awards give public recognition to those who through personal leadership, participation, courage, or achievements have made an outstanding contribution in their local communities at home or abroad.
The awards are recognised as the highest accolade a person can receive in the county. Every winner will be chosen by the people of Galway through a public nomination process and finalised by an independent adjudication panel.
Gala Awards Ceremony
The 12 award winners will be presented with their awards at a gala function in the Galway Bay Hotel on November 10th, with all proceeds going to Rosabel’s Rooms.
Founded in Galway by Dr Suzanne McClean and Gary Monroe in memory of their daughter Rosabel, Rosabel’s Rooms provide direct financial and therapeutic support to families in the aftermath of child loss. Working in collaboration with the Irish Hospice foundation, Rosabel’s Rooms support any family who lose a child, irrespective of the circumstances.
Guidelines for nominations for The Galway People of the Year Awards include Community Activity, Enterprise and Employment, Arts, Culture, Charity Work, Leadership, Sport, Research, Medical, Media, or Personal Achievement. Previous winners were selected for enriching the lives of others and becoming role models for the next generation, bringing joy and light to their community, having shown true strength and courage in the face of adversity, or have supported those in their darkest hour.
