Darkness Into Light 2023
From Salthill to Inis Oírr, people across the city and county are getting ready to take part in the soulful and heartfelt charity event that is Pieta’s Darkness Into Light 5k walk. Taking place on Saturday, May 6th at 4:15am, participants will walk into sunrise to raise vital funds for those affected by suicide.
Here in Galway city, the event starts this year at the Galway Atlantaquaria, Salthill, walking along the shores of Galway bay on the world famous promenade. Each year, the walk provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community.
At the launch of the event at Ground and Co recently, the songs of the combined Ignite Choir, Village Community Choir and Claregalway Community Choir rang out in harmony, heralding a new starting point for the popular event. And you can see our gallery below, with photos taken by our own Gary Vaughan.
Supported by Electric Ireland, Darkness Into Light have helped Pieta raise over €36 million since its inception in 2009.
With walks also taking place in an Cheathru Rua, Athenry, Ballinasloe, Clifden, Colemanstown, Glenamaddy, Headford, Inis Meáin, Inis Mór, Inis Oírr, Inishbofin, Kylemore Abbey, Loughrea, Mountbellew, Portumna and Oranmore, Galway’s Darkness Into Light 2023 is set to be an event to remember.
