A Name Reflecting Hope – UHUG

A group of Ukrainians living in Galway have come together to create a safe space and assistance to anyone fleeing conflict in the war-torn country. As such, a call has been made by Ukrainians Helping Ukrainians Galway (UHUG) for anyone willing to donate their time and skills to facilitate better community outreach and integration.

It’s a labour of love for the Galway based organisation, who are seeking new ways to bring together those who have been forced to leave their home country.

“UHUG is a team of volunteers helping Ukrainians integrate into Irish society,” explains one of the volunteers.

“We gather for volunteering in the city, for coffee mornings, events, master classes, and to provide job-seeking and psychological support.”

Working Together in the Wake of Tragedy

The initiative is born out of necessity in the wake of tragedy. With many both displaced and traumatised by the events that have unfolded, UHUG are calling for anyone to assist. Firstly, to dedicate time and skills. Whether it’s dance classes, art, English lessons, or any skillset that may help to ease the transition for those in need.

Secondly, the group are open to ideas in all forms.

“We invite all those who are interested, those who are not indifferent to the Ukrainian tragedy, to join. Anything that can be interesting for both adults and children, and you are ready to be a volunteer, then we are glad to work with you.

“If you have ideas for cooperation with Ukrainians, options for integration, want to help with warm things, donations, or volunteer at our centre then please get in touch.”

The group are also calling on employers willing to provide jobs to contact them.  For more email info@uhug.ie
