It’s back! Salthill will Swim in Pink this Halloween. Join June Curtin of Snámhaí Sásta to raise vital funds for breast cancer research. On the day, the mental health advocate and sea swimmer travels from her native Spanish Point in Co Clare to lead anyone willing to swim, dip or splash in pink into the water at Ladies Beach, Salthill, on Monday, October 31st at 10am.
A Community Unites
Last year, the first ever Swim in Pink event raised over €31,000 nationwide for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. This year, the fundraiser returns to Salthill. As the brainchild of Galway’s Blackrock Beachwear founder, Louise Griffin, Swim in Pink is a fun and exciting initiative. To celebrate its return for 2022, she has created a limited-edition swimsuit especially for the event, and swim shorts for men. This year’s swimsuit has a new retro swirl design and includes the pink ribbon – the international symbol of breast cancer awareness.
Dive In for Breast Cancer Research
“I would love if we can turn the tide on breast cancer,” explains Louise. “And what better way than to swim in pink on October 31st. As an avid sea swimmer myself, what better way than to dive in for breast cancer research. And I’m so excited that June Curtin is joining us. In essence, she is a bit of a celebrity in the sea swimming world. June has built an incredible community of sea swimmers from around the country through Snámhaí Sásta. Luckily for us, she will lead all participants into the water at 10am on Ladies beach this Halloween. As a result, we can bring the full Snámhaí Sásta experience to Salthill.”
The Salthill event is part of a nationwide campaign, where people from around the country are asked to don their brightest pink on Sunday, October 31st and swim, dip, or splash for the NBCRI.
Registration costs €20 at swiminpink.ie and participants will receive a free swim hat.
Preorders for limited edition swimsuits designed by Blackrock Beachwear are now closed. Any purchases made after October 10th will not arrive in time for the October 31st event. However, the retro and swirly swim range can be purchased at any time during the year at www.blackrockbeachwear.ie with all profits going to the NBCRI.
