Galway’s renowned international arts festival for children, Baboró, is back in full flight. This celebration of music, dance, theatre, and more returns to a fully live format, much to the delight of young and old alike. From the 14th-23rd of October, Galway comes alive to the magic and wonder of Baboró. Now in its 26th year, there will be 50 live events for an extended festival over ten days.
This year, there is an international flair. Here, talented companies will travel from Belgium, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Scotland, and England to entertain and delight. And Baboró is welcoming talented creatives from all over Ireland. As such, it’s a celebration of local and global events for children.
Just Like a Circus
For example, kids aged 8+ can enter the surreal world of ‘Der Lauf’ by Belgian company Le Cirque du Bout du Monde. Imagine the power they yield as they guide these magical circus performers through a series of challenges.
Watch as they juggle, spin plates and stack glasses wearing boxing gloves. Ultimately, their fate is in the hands of this young audience. Moreover, lovers of classical dance will enjoy Ballet Ireland’s presentation of ‘The Glasshouse’. This performance is especially choreographed for children aged 6+.
As a result, it is designed to entertain and enthrall. Firstly, young Fiach is on a mission. He wants to turn the world green with plants. Secondly, there are touching moments of suspense, joy, and exhilaration through dance. What is more, vibrant costumes add to the whimsy and fantasy of this exciting performance.
A Grand Soft Day
A ‘Grand Soft Day’ is the latest work by one of Ireland’s leading theatre companies, Branar. This co-production with New International Encounter (UK/Norway) is a charming and curious new show for children aged 3-6 years celebrating all seasons.
