The Harvest Ball:
The Harvest Ball in aid of Self Help Africa takes place on Friday, September 30th 2022 at the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill. Starting with a champagne reception at 7pm, with uplifting tunes from the Village Gospel Choir, tickets to the event include a delicious four-course dinner. Afterwards, dance the night away to the best classic hits from the ‘60s to the ‘90s with Sean Slattery and the Connections.
All funds raised will go towards the organisations’ emergency efforts in the Ukraine, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh. And it will aid their development programmes in 14 countries in Africa. It’s the first time the charity is hosting an event such as this to raise vital funds since lockdown.
“Let’s say it could be a great Harvest party supporting a very worthy cause,” says Self Help Africa’s Ronan Scully. “It promises to satisfy every musical taste and provide an evening of great music and dance.”
Heartbreak in War-Torn Ukraine:
Ronan recently spoke to Scene in Galway about the heartbreaking tales from the border of war-torn Ukraine. Here he describes his experiences working in his role with Self Help Africa to bring humanitarian aid, assistance and comfort to those fleeing for their lives. Ultimately For Ronan, it’s a the “soul destroying” situation.
“You’d cry at night to see how broken they are, hoping they are going to be alright.” he says. “Essentially, to see them carrying their pets, to see children with a teddy bear, I can’t but think of my own family. Fortunately, there is a sense of relief when they get to the border. Thankfully, they have access to food, blankets and water.”
In effect, this is thanks to the work of Self Help Africa and the Irish Emergency Alliance. Returning from this crisis situation, Ronan continues the work of this noteworthy organisation. As a result, the Harvest Ball is yet another example of his dedication to the charity. Moreover, to help Ronan and the team, you can enjoy a memorable evening on Friday, September 30th at the Galway Bay Hotel.
