Galway’s First Folk Fest:

Here in Galway, we are known for our festivals. To this end, the first Galway Folk Festival takes place from Wednesday, June 15 to Sunday, June 19 2022. It brings with it world renowned headliners as this new event is set to rock the city this week. With the very best of folk music Ireland has to offer including Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny, Hothouse Flowers, Villagers, Séan Keane, The Henry Girls and John Francis Flynn. 

Top Live Music Venue:

As a result, this feast of folk music is not to be missed. Moreover, many of the shows take place at one of Galway’s top live music venues. Namely, Monroe’s Live and Tavern located in the city’s vibrant Westend. With four stages, a fantastic ambiance and lively atmosphere, its set to be the perfect backdrop to the festivities.

Furthermore, The Galway Folk Festival will also showcase the folk stylings of Peter Broderick (Efterklang), The Frank and Walters (acoustic), Emma Langford, BRÍDÍN, The Raines, Zoë Conway & John McIntyre.

Emerging Musical Talent:

Fortunately in Ireland, we have a host of emerging musical talent.  To this end, the first Galway Folk Festival will shine a spotlight on these new and exciting artists. In essence, this dedicated to folk music event provides the chance to ignite careers . Fundamentally, artists now have the opportunity to bring their music to an already engaged audience.

For example, the Galway Folk Festival will showcase the likes of Lorraine Nash, Robert John Ardiff, I Draw Slow, A Smyth, Aoife Scott, Stevie Appleby, Laura Duff, Woven Kin, Seba Safe, Sonny Casey, King Pallas and Les SalAmandas.

Live Music is Back:

For Gary Monroe, the launch of a new music festival is testament to the reemergence of live music. What’s more, the demand for live music is there.  Ultimately, this fresh look at folk music is a chance to deliver top quality entertainment night after night.

“We are delighted to launch the very first Galway Folk Festival,” says Gary Monroe of Monroe’s Live. “We are looking forward to the first summer of live music in two years. And we are excited to bring something new to the Galway music calendar.

A Thrilling Line Up:

Essentially, the Galway Folk Festival will bring together a host of talent. For example, it features artists who have dedicated their career to this genre of music.  In this regard, festival director and programmer, Peter O’ Sullivan is excited to launch the new event to folk music fans.

“We are thrilled to welcome some of the best folk artists this country has to offer to Galway this June,” says Peter.

Calendar of Events for the Galway Folk Festival:

June 15:

The festival kicks off on Wednesday, June 15. On this day, headline act Villagers performing an acoustic show. In addition, you can catch Peter Broderick and BRÍDÍN. Subsequently, these opening acts are followed by four more days of music at Monroe’s. Furthermore, there will be pop up shows at different locations across the city.

June 16:

John Francis Flynn headlines this Thursday, June 16 and you can also catch John Francis Flynn, I Draw Slow, Ultan Conlon, Dani Larkin, Woven Kin and Sonny Casey.

June 17:

On Friday, June 17, catch Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny in action with The Raines, Emma Langford, Zoë Conway & John Mc Intyre, King Pallas and Robert John Ardiff.

June 18:

Hear the musical sounds of Seán Keane on Saturday afternoon, June 18 and the Hothouse Flowers will take to the stage in the evening with The Frank & Walters (acoustic), Aoife Scott, Lorraine Nash, Stevie Appleby and A. Smyth.

June 19:

Enjoy The Henry Girls and Les SalAmandas on Sunday afternoon, June 19th from 2pm with Rowan, Clare Sands, Seba Safe, Laura Duff playing from 7pm.
