Galway is a theatrical heartland beating to the rhythm of the internationally acclaimed Druid Theatre Company. With a loyal following worldwide, many await to see what upcoming treat they have in store. And they have just announced their next show is The Cavalcaders by Billy Roche. It’s taking place here in Galway city, at the Mick Lally Theatre, from May 20th to June 5th before embarking on a national tour.
Billy Roche’s classic memory play takes you on a journey back in time to the 1990s. In essence, it explores the themes of heartache, companionship and the redemptive power of song. Druid ensemble member Aaron Monaghan directs an all-singing cast with Garrett Lombard, Naoise Dunbar, Sean Kearns, Éilish McLaughlin and Tiernan Messitt-Greene. Fundamentally, The Cavalcaders is a comic, wistful portrait of life in a small-town. Though the words of the play, take yourself back to pre-Celtic Tiger Ireland, and the men who lived there.
Terry and his friends Josie, Rory and Ted spend their days as cobblers. However, at night, they transform into The Cavalcaders, a barbershop quartet of local renown. But life has taken its toll on Terry and past betrayals cast long shadows. Ultimatley, Galway’s Druid Theatre Company bring their unique twist to the tale of life and song. Always a sell out wherever they go, make sure to book early for this new show and hear the beautiful tones in this feelgood play.
